The topic for June 8th will be CNC for Woodworking, the discussion will consist of the following;

• For woodworking; where are they used, what are they good for and not good for…

Quick info to get perspective
• What they are; work areas, axis, controllers
• Differences between types; mill, router, lathe
• How they move; steel rod, V bearings, linear rails, ball bearings…
• How they are controlled; belts, leadscrew, ballscrew, gears

Majority of details
• What the varied sizes get you and allow you to do
• Performances levels between the varied sizes and why rigidity matters
• CNC peculiar tooling, rotary bits that allow maximum performance
• V Carve design software and cut paths, the easiest learning curve with quality results
• Fusion 360 solid modeling software, why and why not
• Specialty software for woodworking; cabinet software, joinery software
• CNC headaches - holding the work, dust collection, speed vs depth, where is the top of the work

Examples of what can be made with a smaller shop CNC will be shown to highlight elements that can be harder to do without one. Parts and pieces of a CNC build will be there for review.

I'm hoping I can be there. Zaret and I have been getting more and more comfortable in using my Camaster Panther 408 (http://www.camaster.com/cnc-routers/panther-series-cnc-router/).
